HOW ARE FLAT PANEL MONITORS REPAIRED? The main components of a flat panel monitor are the LCD screen and 2 to 4 printed circuit boards which supply the power, the signal processing from the video card, and the function menu processing controls for the picture presentation on the LCD screen.  We actually are able to repair most of the problems which occur on these circuit boards by using specialized surface mount equipment for component chip level replacement, such as surface mount capacitors, transistors, diodes, resistors, and transformer coils.  There are approximately 800 to 1,000 individual components in the average flat panel monitor.

We have been in the monitor repair business for over 18 years and have successfully repaired over 44,000 monitors.  We love what we do and take pride in the quality of work we do.  We ask that you don't send in a monitor that someone has already attempted to repair because of the delicate nature of the components and the intricate circuitry of the boards.

WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS DO FLAT PANEL MONITORS HAVE ?

Typical repairable flat panel monitor problems are

Our experience is that about 90% of the flat panel monitors which come in for repair will be successfully repaired by us.  We generally can't repair monitors which have cracked LCD screens because the cost of the screen itself is too expensive or can't be obtained.  If we can't repair the monitor you have 2 options.  We will re-assemble the unit for a minimum bench charge of $49 and the shipping costs back,  or we will scrap the unit here for no charge to you.  We work really hard to repair all units and if we are unsuccessful, the odds are slim that it can be repaired elsewhere.  Any monitor that has had non-successful repairs will not necessarily be in the same condition as before the repair because of changed components, heating and cooling of components and other troubleshooting attempts.

WHEN DO FLAT PANEL MONITORS EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS?

The average flat panel monitor will need repair in 2 to 4 years.  Repaired monitors will generally last the same amount of time they did originally.  Note, it always helps to extend the monitor life by turning the unit off when not in use, ie, the end of the day.

HOW DO YOU SHIP A FLAT PANEL MONITOR?

Take the stand off the monitor (usually this involves removing 4 screws ) and wrap the monitor in bubble wrap.  A piece of cardboard over the screen or a box in a box is a good method.  Have sufficient cushion between the sides of the monitor and the outside sturdy box.

Enclose the repair form and send it to us by ground shipment.  We will use your packing material to return the unit to you via UPS ground

HOW DOES A WIDESCREEN MONITOR COMPARE TO A SQUARE MONITOR?

A square monitor has a screen height of about 11 1/2"  to 12", as opposed to a widescreen monitor that has a height of about 10",  thus you lose about 2" in height. If you are using your monitor for spreadsheets, Internet, and work papers you will notice that you will have to scroll down a lot on a widescreen monitor to see the lost 2" of the screen.   A widescreen monitor, in our opinion,  is best used if you are going to watch DVDs or TV on your monitor. You will also lose some screen area, equal to about 4" by 6" on the widescreen monitor due to the decrease in height versus the small increase in width.
